Traverse City Beach Bums News Release

TRAVERSE CITY, MI - The Traverse City Beach Bums looked set for a second straight series sweep before a ninth inning rally by the Schaumburg Boomers lifted the Boomers to a 10-7 win.

Despite the setback, Traverse City has the best record in the Frontier League and maintains a four game lead in the East Division with 18 contests to play.

After Schaumburg took a 1-0 lead in the second inning on a Jereme Milons single to score Steve McQuail, the Beach Bums stormed back with three in the third, two of them coming on a Ryan Still homer, his third of the year, to put the Beach Bums up 3-1. The Boomers would tie the game in the top of the fourth on a homer by McQuail that also scored Chad Mozingo who had walked to lead off the frame.

In the fourth, Traverse City went out on the charge again. Consecutive singles by Kyle Colligan, Sean Gusrang and Marcus Nidiffer loaded the bases before Kyle Eveland reached on a fielder's choice, scoring Colligan to put TC back on top 4-3. On the play, Gusrang was forced out at third. Still came up next and singled to re-load the bases. Brian Heere stood in next and singled, plting Nidiffer and moving Eveland to third. On the play, the leftfielder bobbled the ball, allowing Eveland to score and pushing the lead to 6-3.

Schaumburg would get two runs in the sixth inning on a Chad Mozingo homer to make it 6-5. Thanks to some strong relief pitching from Nick Capito and Matt Miller, the game would stay that way into the ninth. Scott Mueller came on and got the first two outs before a bounding ball off the bat of K. C. Judge gave the Boomers life. That hit opened the gates as the next four batters reached, capped by Mozingo's second homer of the night. Gusrang would double home Colligan with two outs in the bottom of the ninth to create the 10-7 final.

Joe Parsons (3-1) picked up the win with a scoreless eighth inning. Mueller (1-5) took the loss for Traverse City. Offensively, the Beach Bums got three hits from Colligan and two each from Still, Heere and Gusrang. For Heere it was his fourth consecutive game with two hits. Colligan extended his season-long hitting streak to seven games. Still also walked twice, extending his Frontier League single season record to 88.
