Normal CornBelters News Release

The Normal CornBelters, presented by Illinois Corn Farmers, took the series win with a 4-2 score in Sunday night's game at the Corn Crib. Normal's Tyler Lavigne (5-7) received the win, wile Kaleb Engelke(1-0) got the save. River City's Justin Gill (3-3) took the loss.

It was the CornBelters who were first on the board again. Back to back singles left centerfielder Bobby Rinard and designated hitter Pat McKenna on base. A hit from first baseman Ernie Banks drove Rinard home before McKenna was gunned down at the plate to end the inning, leaving the 'Belters with a 1-0 lead after the third.

In the fifth inning, Corey Anderson hit an RBI single, allowing for a Rascals' run to score, tying the game at 1-1.

The 'Belters responded quickly to take a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the fifth. Pat McKenna hit a lead off home run, his third home run in the last two games, to give Normal the advantage.

The Rascals continued to fight for the lead in the top of the sixth inning, adding another run to the board and leaving the score tied at 2-2.

Normal took the final lead of the game in the eighth inning. Banks was replaced by pinch runner Ty Wiesemeyer after hitting a single. A double from third baseman Randy Wells moved Wiesemeyer to third base, who then came home on a ground ball hit by second baseman Andrew Cohn. A sacrifice bunt then drove Wells home, leaving the 'Belters with a 4-2 lead.

The CornBelters will hit the road on Tuesday after a day off on Monday. They will start their series against the Lake Erie Crushers at 6:05pm Central. Pregame begins on WJBC.com at 5:50pm. Normal will put Jacob Liedka (2-9, 3.76 ERA) on the mound for Tuesday's game.
