
Beach Bums Fall 4-3 in Season Finale

CRESTWOOD, IL - The Windy City ThunderBolts broke open a 1-1 tie with two runs in the last of the fifth and held on for a 4-3 win over the Traverse City Beach Bums on Thursday night at Standard Bank Stadium.
For the third straight night, the ThunderBolts jumped out on top in the first inning on a sacrifice fly from Max White. Traverse City evened the game in the top of the fifth on a solo homer from Sean Gusrang, which was also the Beach Bums' first hit of the evening.
Windy City came right back in the bottom of the fifth inning, though, loading the bases against Ian MacDougall. With two strikes and two outs, Davidson Peguero snuck a two-run single through the right save that put the Bolts up 3-1. Ryan Soares' RBI single in the sixth inning upped Windy City's lead to 4-1.
As had been the case in the entire series, the Beach Bums got back into the game. In the seventh inning, Kevin Taylor doubled home Gusrang to creep to within 3-2. In the eighth, Scott Woodward on a passed ball, but Traverse City stranded two runs in scoring position. Reese McGraw picked up his fifth save by getting the final two outs in the ninth.
Pete Whittingslow (1-1) picked up his first win of the year in a solid start for Windy City, allowing three runs on three hits in 7.1 innings. MacDougall (6-4) gave up four runs on nine hits in five-plus innings to take the loss.
Traverse City finishes the season 38-58 while Windy City ended up with a record of 35-60.
