Beach Bums End Season with Loss

TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. - The Traverse City Beach Bums ended the 2009 season with a 4-3 loss at the hands of the Kalamazoo Kings, who clinched the East Division title with the win. The contest was witnessed by 6,032 fans at Wuerfel Park.

Kalamazoo opened a 4-0 lead by scoring two runs in each of the first two frames. Brandon Anderson led off the game with a single against Beach Bums starter Jason Kiley and stole second. Joe Ramos and Josh Short were hit by pitches to load the bases. The first run scored on an error and the second run came in when Amos Ramon singled. Josh Short and Tim Brown drove in runs in the second with singles.

Kiley settled down and the Beach Bums rallied with a pair of runs in the fifth. Andrew Franco posted the first Traverse City hit of the game to start the inning and Andrew Barbaro coaxed a one-out walk. Anthony D'Alfonso drove in the first run with a single and Andrew Stafford followed with an RBI groundout. Kiley worked six innings and was hit with the loss, allowing four runs on seven hits to go with a walk and four strikeouts. He also hit four.

Traverse City pulled within 4-3 in the seventh when Jorge Araiza reached on a two base error and scored on a groundout by Andrew Stafford. The Beach Bums had the tying run on with two outs in the ninth but could not bring it across as Dan Baerlocher saved the win for Brandon Parillo. The Beach Bums managed just five hits in the game. Anthony D'Alfonso had two of the hits.
