
Beach Bums Drop Second Game With Sliders

TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. - The Traverse City Beach Bums dropped their second consecutive game to the Midwest Sliders of Ypsilanti, falling by a 3-1 score on Tuesday.
With both pitchers cruising, the Sliders were able to strike first, scoring twice in the fourth. Clay McCord led off with a bunt single and went to third with one out on a double by Robbie Knapp. Jimmy Baker drove home the first run with a sacrifice fly to center. Jeremy Jones followed with a single to score Knapp.
The lone Traverse City run scored in the sixth. Brad Miller led off with a single, was sacrificed to second, stole third, and scored with two outs on a passed ball. That was the lone run the Beach Bums could muster against starting pitcher Scott Van Es for the Sliders. Van Es threw 6.1 innings and scattered five hits while walking two and striking out six.
The Sliders added an insurance run in the ninth as Robbie Knapp led off with a double against B.J. Hagen and scored when Jeremy Jones doubled.
Kevin Reese had a very strong outing for the Beach Bums in his final start of the season. Reese went seven innings and allowed two runs on six hits with five strikeouts. Shawn Joy tossed a 1-2-3 eighth inning. Brian Lapin paced the offense with two hits. He tripled in the ninth but was left at third base.
The Beach Bums will conclude the series with the Sliders at Wuerfel Park tomorrow night with a 7:05pm contest. There will be a special discounted price of $5 per ticket for adults and $3 for kids aged 12 and under on a Wacky Wednesday. RHP Brett Bostelman (7-7, 3.98) will make his final start of the season while RHP Jeff Fischer (4-5, 5.17) goes for the Sliders.
