
Rascals Use Long Ball In 5-1 Victory; Set Franchise Record In Wins

O'FALLON, MO - The Rascals smacked four solo home runs to down the Otters 5-1 Tuesday night at T.R. Hughes Ballpark. It was the 52nd win for River City this season, passing the 51 victories set by the 2004 team.
The Rascals (52-37) needed only one pitch from Dustin Renfrow (5-9) to get on the scoreboard in the first inning as Scott Houin launched his sixth home run into the Rascals' bullpen. Chad Maddox and Ernie Banks continued the home run party with back-to-back shots in the third, the second time this season the two have gone back-to-back and it gave River City a 4-0 lead.
Quinn Monsma (1-1) earned his first victory this season, allowing only one Evansville run in six innings of work. The southpaw struck out six and walked five, but surrendered only six hits and the one run.
The Otters (28-63) threatened the entire night, stranding 15 runners on base and at least one every inning. The lone breakthrough was on an Eric Blackwell single in the sixth, putting Evansville down 4-1 at the time.
Chris Colton led off the eighth against Renfrow with his 18th long ball, one shy of tying the Rascals single season record of 19 held by three different players.
Tony Marsala worked two scoreless frames and Jake Edwards tossed a scoreless ninth to round out the 5-1 victory. The Rascals improved to 9-1 against Evansville this season and moved into the fourth and final wild card spot.
Banks was 3-4 with the home run while Houin, Maddox, Colton and Jorge Gutierrez all had two hits as the Rascals won for the third straight game.
The Rascals will look to extend their franchise record in wins tomorrow in game two of the three game series. Josh Lowey (8-2) will go opposite Nick Utley (4-5). First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
