Southern Illinois Miners News Release

MARION, Ill - The Miners rebounded from an early 4-0 deficit to beat the ThunderBolts, 5-4 on Tuesday night. With the win, the Miners moved into first place all alone with five games left in the regular season.

Southern Illinois took the lead in the sixth inning when Jereme Milons delivered a two-out double to score Landon Camp. Camp finished the day 3-for-4. Stephen Holdren led off the inning with his first triple with the Miners and scored on Brad Miller's single. All of the Miners runs came off Ross Stout (12-5), who lasted 7.1 innings but took the loss after throwing over 120 pitches.

Brett Scarpetta (6-4) took the win for the Miners, tossing 7.0 innings. Despite allowing four runs in the first two innings, he settled down to throw five shutout innings before giving way to the bullpen.

Adam Revelette began the eighth inning, and recorded two scoreless outs but left runners at the corners. Mike Damchuk left the runners stranded as he retired the final four batters in order to earn his sixth save, tying him with All-Star Chris Wiman for the most by a Miner this season.

Wednesday, the Miners will send Danny Zeffiro (5-4, 5.00) to the mound against the Bolts Dustin Pease (11-6, 3.87) in Game 2 of the series. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. It will be the final Why Work Wednesday of the season sponsored by WXAN 103.9 FM. For tickets and a complete schedule, visit www.southernillinoisminers.com.
