
Beach Bums Crush Lake Erie for Sweep

AVON, OH-The Traverse City Beach Bums offense kept hitting on Wednesday night to lift the team to a 9-7 victory over the Lake Erie Crushers in front of 2,885 fans at All Pro Freight Stadium.
Lake Erie opened the scoring in the first inning when shortstop Andrew Davis launched a solo home run to right field to give the Crushers a 1-0 lead.
The Beach Bums struck for four runs in the second inning, highlighted by an RBI-double from shortstop Tom Zebroski, and a two-run double from second baseman James Guerrero to give Traverse City a 4-1 lead.
Lake Erie would come back and tie the score 4-4 in the fourth inning. The Beach Bums took a 6-4 lead when they scored a pair of runs in the sixth inning, thanks in part to an RBI-single by catcher Nate Peterson. Lake Erie right fielder Kellen Kulbacki then lined a two-run single in the bottom of the inning to make it a 6-6 tie.
The Beach Bums took the lead for good with a run in the seventh inning on a Jose Vargas RBI-single, and then added a pair of insurance runs in the ninth highlighted by a Chase Burch solo home run, his fourth of the season, to give the Beach Bums a 9-6 lead.
Traverse City relief pitcher Scott Dunn (1-2) pitched two scoreless innings in the ballgame, recording his first win of the season. Scott Mueller came on to pitch the ninth and recieved his fifth save of the season. Lake Erie reliever Paul Daniels (0-1) allowed to go-ahead run in the seventh inning in suffering the loss for the Crushers, his first of 2011.
Zebroski led Traverse City with three hits in the ballgame. The Beach Bums improve to 11-13 with the win, while the Crushers fall to 7-17 on the season.
The Beach Bums head home to open up a six game home stand beginning with a three-game series against the Joliet Slammers on Thirsty Thursday sponsored by Cherryland Electric at 7:05 p.m. Nolan Shaffer gets the start for the Beach Bums.
