Erie BayHawks News Release
Erie, Pennsylvania - The Erie BayHawks (3-6) beat the Maine Red Claws (6-5), 103-102, on a last second three-pointer from Jordan Sibert this evening at Erie Insurance Arena.
The BayHawks found themselves playing catch-up much of the game. In the first quarter, the Red Claws shot 80 percent from the field and went on a 20-6 run to open the game compared to the BayHawks' 40 percent shooting. Omari Johnson hit two consecutive three-pointers in that span. The shooting woes continued into the second quarter until Tyler Harvey hit a three with 2:07 left in the half. Melvin Ejim followed up Harvey's three with a jump shot to close the gap to 61-50 going into the half.
The BayHawks used a 8-2 run midway through the second quarter to pull within one of the lead, 71-70 until Andre Stringer hit a three to halt the run. Ejim responded by knocking down a driving layup to close the quarter at 77-74. Stringer knocked down two shots to open the fourth quarter to draw the Red Claws lead back out to 8. Myck Kabongo and Derrick Caracter answered with two quick buckets before Jordan Mickey made three layups to get the lead to 11, 89-78 with 7:35 left in the game. The teams traded buckets for the next four minutes before Orlando Magic assignee Devyn Marble made a two-foot layup to get the score to 93-91. Kabongo made a jumper followed by an Ejim free throw before Davion Berry made several free throws after the BayHawks were forced to foul to hold on to a chance to win. Sibert hit his first three with 6.4 seconds remaining to close to 100-101. Marble fouled Berry again but Berry missed one of his two free throws. Sibert took the opportunity on the inbounds pass. Sibert rolled around a high screen from Ejim and knocked down the three without hesitation.
Levi Randolph paced the Red Claws with 19 points on seven of 16 shooting. Berry finished with 17 points and four assists while Stringer put up 16 points and 10 assists. Mickey, assigned from the Boston Celtics, had a double double with 15 points and 11 rebounds.
Keith Appling led the BayHawks with 18 points and six assists. Sibert was close behind with 17 points, six coming in the most crucial moments. Ejim posted 15 points and 8 rebounds.
The BayHawks return to action on the road tomorrow against the Delaware 87ers at 5pm. They will be home on December 28th at 7pm against the Texas Legends for Disney Night. Tickets are available: erie.dleague.nba.com/Disney.
