Montgomery Biscuits News Release
MONTGOMERY, AL - The Mobile BayBears cruised to a 7-1 victory over the Biscuits in the finale of a five-game series on Monday night at Riverwalk Stadium.
After not allowing a hit the first time through the BayBears order, Biscuits' starter Darin Downs conceded a leadoff single to Evan Frey in the fourth inning. With Frey on the move, Chris Rahl cracked an RBI triple off the base of the wall in right-center field to put the BayBears in front, 1-0. Downs retired the next two hitters without Rahl scoring, but Bryan Byrne recorded an opposite-field single to bring Rahl home for a 2-0 advantage.
BayBears' starter Barry Enright (8-7) was in control throughout his six innings of work. He shutout the Biscuits on just four hits to take his first win over Montgomery in three starts this season. He walked two and struck out three.
The BayBears tacked on a third run off Downs, before he departed following the seventh inning. Byrne led off the seventh with a single and Cyle Hankerd followed with a second single to put two aboard. Matt Tupman sacrficed the pair to second and third before Downs intentionally walked Yunesky Sanchez to load the bases. Pete Clifford recorded an RBI single to stretch the lead to 3-0, before Downs ended the inning and his evening with a double-play ball from Frey.
Downs (0-1) pitched well in his Biscuits' debut, but took the loss, surrendering three earned runs on seven hits over seven innings. He walked two and struck out four in his first start at Riverwalk Stadium.
The BayBears put the game away against Neal Frontz out of the bullpen with four runs in the eighth inning. The inning was highlighted by a two-run triple from Yunesky Sanchez that capped Mobile's scoring.
The Biscuits avoided being shutout with a run in the ninth inning off Daniel Stange. J.T. Hall lifted a sacrifice fly to score Cody Cipriano, who had tripled with one out.
The Biscuits enjoy an off day in between two five-game home series on Tuesday. They open a five-game series with the Mississippi Braves at Riverwalk Stadium on Wednesday night at 7:05 PM.
