HOOVER, Ala. - Casey Coleman won his Southern League-high twelfth victory as the Tennessee Smokies (23-22) avoided a sweep with an 11-4 win over the Birmingham Barons at Regions Park on Monday night.

Coleman (12-5) threw five innings and only allowed four runs on seven hits in the win, and he is now 7-0 on the road this season.

The Smokies mounted a two-out rally to take a five run lead in the first inning. Ty Wright started the scoring with an RBI single, before Blake Lalli brought in two runs on his double. Russ Canzler also hit an RBI double of his own to put the score at 4-0, then Welington Castillo brought in Canzler on his single to put the score at 5-0. Lalli and Canzler both collected two runs batted in during the game, with Canzler going 3-4.

The Barons cracked Coleman for runs in the fourth, as David Cook brought in a run on his double, and Jim Gallagher had a two RBI single to make it a 5-3 game. The rally was capped by a Lee Cruz sacrifice fly to make it a one run game.

Tennessee responded in the top of the fifth; with Marquez Smith driving in a run on a groundout to give the Smokies a 6-4 lead.

The Barons loaded the bases with no outs in the bottom of the sixth, but Alex Maestri entered for Tennessee and did his job. He struck out Javier Colina, and then forced Lee Cruz to ground into a double play that ended the inning without any runs scored.

Tennessee added insurance with three runs in the top of the eighth, and two in the ninth, and Brian Schlitter pitched a scoreless ninth to end the game in an 11-4 Smokies win.
