September 3, 2007 - International League (IL1)
Indianapolis Indians News Release
LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Louisville pushed across runs in the second, third, fourth, fifth and sixth innings to post an 8-2 victory over Indianapolis before a crowd of 8,008 in the season finale for both clubs Monday afternoon at Louisville Slugger Field.
The Bats finish the campaign 74-70 overall and 39-33 at home, while the Indians wrap up the year 70-73 overall and 31-40 on the road. Louisville closes out the season second in the International League's West Division, while the Tribe suffers its first sub-.500 season since 2004.
Louisville snatched a lead it would not relinquish in the second. 2B Aaron Herr and 3B Luis Bolivar came up with base knocks, stolen bases and runs scored to put the Bats in front for good. Boliver's RBI single tied the affair at one, while LF Anderson Machado's run-scoring base knock made it 2-1.
CF Chris Dickerson highlighted the Louisville third with his 13th homer of the season, while Machado keyed the fourth with another RBI single.
The advantage grew in the fifth when the Bats scored three insurance runs. RF Buck Coats whacked a two-run double to right after Indianapolis committed a costly throwing error on a bunt attempt. 1B Jesse Gutierrez capped the inning moments later with an RBI single to make it 7-2.
Louisville's final run made its way to the dish in the sixth on three singles and a sacrifice bunt.
Indianapolis jumped out to an early lead with a run in the first. CF Andrew McCutchen led off the contest with a single to center, moved to second on a balk, advanced to third on a groundout and trotted plateward on 1B Russ Johnson's single to right.
The Bats responded in their second at-bat and the run differential became larger each inning thereafter.
Louisville RHP Elizardo Ramirez (5.0 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 8 SO) collected a season-best strikeout total and improved to 4-3 with the win.
Indians RHP Marty McLeary (5.0 IP, 10 H, 7 R, 6 ER, 0 BB, 5 SO) was tagged with the loss, falling to 5-8.
Dickerson (3-for-5, 2 R, 1 RBI), Herr (2-for-4, 1 R), Gutierrez (2-for-4, 1 R, 1 RBI), Bolivar (2-for-4, 1 R, 1 RBI), Machado (2-for-4, 2 RBI) and C Ryan Jorgensen (2-for-4, 1 R) all turned in multi-hit efforts for the Bats.
McCutchen (2-for-3, 1 R), a Triple-A rookie, registered the Tribe's only multi-hit performance and finishes the campaign on an eight-game hitting streak.
Louisville wins the season series against Indianapolis -- 10 games to six. The Bats finish the year 29-19 against IL West Division foes, while the Indians wrap up 19-29 in that same category.
The Tribe started the campaign by leading the IL's West Division for 69 straight days, but went just 27-41 after slipping to second place on June 24.
