Bats Lack Pitching and Fall to RailRiders, 8-1

MOOSIC, Pa - The Louisville Bats (35-38) pitching lacked as they fell 8-1 to the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (43-31).

The Bats were on the board first over the RailRiders after the first inning, back-to-back doubles by Jermaine Curtis and Hernan Iribarren with the RBI. The RailRiders didn't waste time retaking the lead, 2-1 in the bottom of the second inning with a two-out RBI double by Ben Gamel followed by a RBI triple by Cole Figueroa.

The RailRiders took advantage of the Bats starter, righty Keyvius Sampson as he walked his fifth batter of the game in the third inning. Two runs scored off of a single by Juan Graterol that made it a 4-1 lead for Scranton.

Sampson (L, 1-1, 5.79) did not return to the mound after the third inning, he gave up five hits, four earned runs, walked five and struck out three. Right-hander Sam LeCure relieved him in the fourth inning.

Right-hander Jordan Foley (1-2, 2.25) exited the game after four inning, he gave up just three hits, one earned run, walked two and struck out three. Joel De La Cruz (W, 5-0, 2.55) came on to relieve in the top of the fifth.

Scranton/WB kept the runs coming, they scored a run in each the fifth and sixth and two more in the seventh that made it an 8-1 ballgame.

The Bats tapped five pitchers tonight but could not hold off the RailRiders as they fell, 8-1.

The final game of the series in Moosic, PA will begin at 7:05 p.m. tomorrow. Starting for Louisville will be left-hander David Holmberg (3-5, 5.00) and for Scranton/WB is the right-hander Jaron Long (5-4, 4.04).
