Bats Fall to RailRiders in Extras, 8-7

LOUISVILLE, Ky.- The Louisville Bats (45-48) dropped the series opener in extra innings against the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (49-44) Thursday night, 8-7, at Louisville Slugger Field.

The RailRiders put the first run on the board early in the first with a two-run homer from right-fielder Aaron Judge, to score Jose Pirela and grab the 2-0 lead.

Louisville right-hander Robert Stephenson exited the game after Scranton/Wilkes-Barre scored four runs in the fifth. Stephenson (2-1, 4.50) went five innings, giving up seven hits, six earned runs, two walks, four strike outs and one home run. Jose De La Torre (L, 5-4, 4.07) took the loss for the Bats. He pitched two innings allowing two hits, one earned run, one strike out and one home run.

An RBI double by shortstop Kristopher Negron brought home Bryson Smith to give the Bats their first run of the night in the sixth. A sacrifice fly by Jermaine Curtis cut the RailRiders lead to 6-2 later in the frame.

The Bats tied the game, 7-7, with a five-run ninth inning rally sending the game into extra innings. However, RailRiders designated hitter Kyle Roller hit a go-ahead solo homer in the 11th, to give Scranton/Wilkes-Barre an 8-7 lead. Nick Goody (S, 1) was credited for his first save of the year as he struck out the side in the eleventh.

Starting for the RailRiders was right-hander Kyle Davies (7-6, 4.25). He pitched six innings and allowed four hits, two earned runs, two walks and struck out four. Caleb Cotham (W, 1-0, 1.17) grabbed the win for Scranton.

Louisville will take on Scranton/Wilkes-Barre again tomorrow night at 7:05 p.m. Lefty Tony Cingrani (0-0) will take the mound in a Major League rehab start for Louisville, and starting for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre will be right-hander Esmil Rogers (0-0, 3.63).
