Hens Sputter in First Game out of All Star Break

July 16, 2015 - International League (IL1)
Toledo Mud Hens News Release

In the Mud Hens' return from the All Star break, the Indianapolis Indians took the first game of the four game series 7-2. After three days off, the Toledo offense sputtered out of the gate and was only able to put up two runs on five hits. Thad Weber threw a quality start, but it wasn't enough to nail down a victory.

Weber threw seven innings for the Mud Hens, allowing three runs against the Indians. After two scoreless, he ran into trouble in the third inning when he allowed two runs. In the fifth, he allowed another run, but settled in for the final two innings of his outing.

The offense couldn't get much going all night until the sixth inning when Josh Wilson led off with a double. Daniel Fields followed with a walk, and then a batter later, Steven Moya doubled to score Wilson and break the Hens' scoreless streak. With one out, Mike Hessman hit a sacrifice fly to left field to pull the score to 3-2, but that was all the offense could muster on Thursday evening.

After Weber exited, Indianapolis broke out a four run inning on the Toledo bullpen. Alberto Cabrera struggled mightily by allowing all four runs without recording an out. Josh Zeid came on to settle the Indians' bats down, but the damage was already done.

Toledo is back in action on Friday night at 7 p.m. taking on the Indianapolis Indians in game two of the series.
