Bats Back Diaz's Quality Start

July 20, 2010 - Golden Baseball League (GBL)
St. George RoadRunners News Release

Pushing a four-game losing streak aside, the St. George RoadRunners swatted out 16 hits in support of starting pitcher Raymar Diaz in Tuesday night's 10-2 victory over the visiting Victoria Seals in GBL Northern Division action at Bruce Hurst Field.

Jermy Acey

led the charge offensively going 3-for-5 with a double and four RBI. Five others including Diaz swatted two hits apiece.

Diaz squandered an early run on a Josh Arhart double scoring Wilver Perez, but quieted the Seals' offense over the next five frames. He finished up allowing five hits while fanning one to improve to 4-6 on the season.

RoadRunner hitters tallied seven runs on eight hits off the previously unbeaten Isaac Hess (1-2) over 3.2 innings. Acey and Scott Clement each drove in two with hits in the STG four-run third. Hess would exit after RBI hits by Yosvany Almario and Acey in the fourth.

The RoadRunners pushed two more across in the fifth. Nick Spears, in his debut, brought home Henry Calderon with a grounded and scored a batter later on a Diaz double down the right field line.

Pitcher Rob Naegele not only faced the minimum amount of batter in an inning of relief, he swatted in his first RBI in the seventh inning with a single plating C.J. Lang.

Anthony Pluta rapped a pinch-hit RBI single in the Seals' eighth off Mitch Arnold for the game's final tally. Jose Obispo went 1-2-3 in the ninth to nail down the win.

The series concludes Wednesday night at 7:05pm with LHP Jon Dutton taking the ball for St. George opposed by right-hander Andrew Arreola.

The game can be heard on ESPN SportsRadio 1210 and online at Network1Sports.com with John Potter.
