Edmonton Capitals News Release

Edmonton, AB - The Edmonton Capitals put on a fantastic display of baseball dominance in front of a crowd of energetic youngsters on Kids Take Over Day on Tuesday afternoon at TELUS Field against the Tijuana Cimarrones.

The Caps hammered the Cimarrones with 10 runs on 19 hits, while starting pitcher Lou Pote tossed a complete game four-hitter and struck out nine batters, as the home team cruised to a 10-0 shutout. Edmonton has now won four in a row and 17 of their last 18 games, sitting in first place in the Golden Baseball League's North Division second-half standings at 4-0.

In conjunction with Kids Take Over Day, local youngsters fulfilled various ballpark duties, like helping with the Caps coaching staff, announcing the game and roaming the stands as a concession vendor. The crowd was also packed with energetic kids, cheering on the Caps to the dominant win.

"Kids make it sound like there's 10,000 people in the stands, so it's really fun to play on a day like this," Pote said of the near-flawless game. "They really get into the game and cheer us on. Kids love baseball, so it's really good to see them all come out to the ballpark and have a good time. And we had a really good all-around game too, so that was a bonus."

The Caps had many stars on offence on the day. Catcher Josh Tarnow went 4-for-5 with a home run, a double and two RBI, while third baseman Alex Prieto went 3-for-5, which included blasting a three-run home run. Centre fielder Ryan Stevenson went 2-for-4 and drove in a pair of runs, while Steve Brown sent the crowd into a frenzy in the eighth with an inside-the-park home run. Pote even contributed to the offence, going 2-for-4 with a run scored.

The Caps play again Wednesday at 7 p.m. against the Cimarrones - the final game of the three-game series. The series finale is also another Wiener Wednesday, as Capital Dogs will be on sale for just $2.

NOTES: The Caps were without starting second baseman Matt Rogelstad and pitcher Evan White for Tuesday's game - and they will be for two more games as well - as both players were suspended by the GBL for three games for their roles in Sunday's bench-clearing brawl against the Yuma Scorpions. Left fielder Larry Bigbie also missed his second straight game with a hand injury sustained during the scuffle. He had X-rays taken on Tuesday and is listed as day-to-day.

The Capitals are Edmonton's first choice for professional baseball and family entertainment. Season seats start at less than $9 per game and are available pro-rated for the balance of the season. Individual game tickets are available for just $10 every game. Tickets are available at all Ticketmaster locations, the TELUS Field Box Office during regular business hours, by calling (780) 414-GOAL (4625) or online at capsbaseball.ca.
