Victoria Seals News Release

St. George, UT - Returning to Bruce Hurst Field for the second game of a three-game set, the Victoria Seals looked for a third straight road win against the St. George RoadRunners on Tuesday night. Giving left-hander Isaac Hess (2-0) the start, the Seals lined up against Raymar Diaz (3-6) on the mound for the RoadRunners in game two.

Trading runs in the early stages, it was the Seals first on the board when Wilver Perez led the game off with a single, stole second base to push his league-leading stolen base total to 40, and later scored on an RBI double courtesy of Josh Arhart. The RoadRunners would respond, however, evening the game 1-1 in the bottom of the first when a lead-off single from Victor Buttler cashed on an RBI base hit from Jermy Acey.

Grabbing a commanding lead in the third, St. George put the Seals in a hole with four runs in the frame. After Buttler picked up another single, C.J. Lang reached on an error to Victoria third basemen Brian Rios and Yosvany Almario drew a walk to load the bases, Acey knocked in a pair of runners with a single to make it 3-1 RoadRunners. Later in that same frame, a two-out double off the bat of Scott Clement scored two more, handing St. George a 5-1 lead through three innings of play.

Padding their lead in the fourth, the home side went right back to work with singles from Diaz and Almario along with another RBI from Acey, this time on a double to right-centrefield, to establish a 7-1 advantage. Tacking on another pair of runs in the fifth, St. George put the game out of reach with the help of a lead-off double from Henry Calderon before an overthrow from Seals shortstop Wilver Perez and an RBI double from Diaz to make it a 9-1 ball game.

Back-to-back singles from Lang and Rob Naegele pushed the RoadRunners into double digits in the seventh inning before Victoria responded to score their second run of the contest in the top of the eighth thanks to an RBI single from pinch-hitter Anthony Pluta. Unable to muster a ninth inning comeback, though, the Seals drop game two against the RoadRunners by a 10-2 final score.

Isaac Hess gave up four earned runs en route to his first loss of the season, while Raymar Diaz improved to 4-6 with the win for St. George. An impressive 3-for-5, four runs batted in effort from Jermy Acey paced the RoadRunners offense, while three untimely errors proved to be the difference for the Seals.
