Chico Outlaws News Release

The Chico Outlaws pounded out 20 hits but ended up on the short end of the stick in the runs scored department, falling 12-8 at Goodwin Field on Monday night in game two of the team's four game series.

Making his tenth start of the year for Chico, Kris Honel (6-1) suffered his first defeat of the year, getting roughed up for five earned runs on five hits in three and two-thirds innings of work. Honel also walked a season-high eight batters.

The Flyers' Jesse Smith (2-3) earned the victory despite not looking particularly sharp through the first three innings. Chico loaded the bases in the second and third innings, but only mustered two runs and stranding six runners through the first three frames.

Orange County loaded up the bases three times in the game, scoring crooked numbers in four different innings. Shortstop Tyler Keeble went 4 for 6 with two RBIs to pace the Flyers' offensive attack, while right fielder Sergio Pedroza went 2 for 2 with an RBI and three runs scored.

Chico's Bobby Hill had three hits on the night, Mikael Jova went 3 for 4 with three RBIs and left fielder JJ Sherrill went 3 for 5 with two doubles and two runs scored to lead the Outlaws at the plate. The Outlaws trailed 12-2 going into the top of the eighth inning, but plated six runs in the frame off Flyers'reliever Cha-Sueng Baek, picked up from the Yuma Scorpions on July 16th. The former big leaguer with Seattle and San Diego lasted just two-thirds of an inning, surrendering six earned runs on six hits and a walk before being lifted by Orange County manager Paul Abbott for GBL All-Star reliever Mike Koons. Anthony Manuel, Mitch Einertson, Hill and Jova drove in runs during the frame.

Koons pitched the final inning and two-thirds to finish the game for Orange County (2-1 in the second half). The Outlaws dropped to 2-3 in the second half of play.

Game three of the four-game series between the Outlaws and Flyers is Tuesday night with first pitch at 7:05 pm. Garret Holleran goes for Chico in search of his sixth win of the year, while Jake Renshaw gets the call for the Flyers.
