July 20, 2010 - Golden Baseball League (GBL)
Orange County Flyers News Release

The Orange County Flyers outlasted the Chico Outlaws, 12-8, in a 35-hit parade at Goodwin Field on Monday night. Orange County improved to 2-1 in the second half of the season, earning a win behind the hot bat of Tyler Keeble, who went 4-for-6 with two RBI and 3 runs scored.

Orange County captured the lead in the second inning, when OC starting pitcher Jesse Smith drew a bases-loaded walk, and Steve Boggs knocked a sacrifice fly for a 2-1 advantage. After Chico tied the game, 2-2, in the top of the third, the Flyers responded when Outlaws started Kris Honel walked the bases loaded to begin the bottom of the third. Derek Perren added a sac fly for a 3-2 Flyers lead.

Smith, making his eighth start on the mound for the Flyers, protected the lead during his six innings of work, allowing two runs despite 11 hits while striking out four Outlaws for his second win of the season.

Orange County increased their lead to 5-2 with a pair of RBI-singles from Tyler Keeble and Keith Ginter, chasing Honel from the game in the fourth inning. Honel, an All-Star this season, took his first loss of the season giving up five runs on five hits with eight walks in 3 and 2/3 innings.

The Flyers made the rout official with four runs off reliever Rusty Jones in the sixth inning. Keeble scored his second run of the game on an errant throw from right field on a Sergio Pedroza double. Keith Ginter's sac fly cashed Pedroza from third. David Harris drew a walk and Perren singled before three straight wild pitches from Jones scored them both during Alex Jamieson's at-bat, increasing the Flyers lead to 9-2.

Chico tighten the score with six runs in the top of the eighth off former Major Leaguer Cha-Seung Baek, before Mike Koons came on to pitch the final 1 and 2/3 innings to finish the game for the Flyers.

The Flyers gave up a season-high 20 hits to the Outlaws.

The Flyers and Outlaws continue their four-game series on Tuesday when OC's Jake Renshaw takes the mound against Outlaws' Garret Holleran. First pitch is at 7:05pm.
