Birmingham Barons News Release

The Barons' bullpen continued its dominance Friday night, lowering its ERA to 2.52 and giving the offense a chance to defeat West Tennessee 4-3 at Regions Park.

Clevelan Santeliz (1-0, 0.00) replaced starting pitcher Brian Omogrosso to begin the seventh inning with the Barons tied at three. The right hander earned his first win in his second appearance since returning from the disabled list last Saturday. He has yet to allow a hit on the season, but did walk one batter on the night.

Omogrosso started the game for the Barons and went six strong innings before giving up two runs and surrendering a one-run lead in the sixth inning.

Dayan Viciedo hit his second home run of the season to tie the game in the bottom half of the sixth inning.

The Barons took the lead for good in the seventh inning when John Shelby walked with one out. The lead off hitter moved to third base when Gordon Beckham ripped a double down the left field line and scored moments later on Tyler Flowers' sacrifice fly.

Fernando Hernandez pitched a perfect ninth inning to give the Barons their third straight win, and second of the series.

The same two teams will meet again Saturday night at Regions Park with a 7:05 PM first start. The Barons will honor Todd Jones before the game and there will be fireworks following the contest. As always, $5 Little Caesars Hot-N-Ready Pizzas will be available.
