Cleveland Barons News Release
CLEVELAND - The Cleveland Barons, in conjunction with the American Hockey League, announced today that defenseman Garrett Stafford was awarded the January AHL Rookie of the Month.
Stafford registered 16 points on 3 goals and 13 assists in 15 games during the month of January. His team leading +7 plus/minus rating helped vault the Barons into second place of the North Division by posting a 9-5-0-1 record during the month.
Stafford's play was vital to the Barons recent success. On January 9th, Stafford scored the game-winning goal in overtime against the division leading Hamilton Bulldogs. In January, the Barons posted a 6-2-0-1 record in the 9 games that Stafford recorded a point. The 6'0", 190-pound defenseman totaled 5 multi-point games on the month in which the Barons posted a 4-1-0-0 record.
In recognition of his accomplishment, Stafford will be presented with an etched crystal trophy by the AHL prior to the Saturday, February 28th game against the Rochester Americans at 7:00pm.
The University of New Hampshire product, tied for third on the team in scoring, currently is at the top of several offensive categories.
Stafford's impressive play has earned him a slot on the PlanetUSA All-Star Team at the 2004 Pepsi AHL All-Star Classic to be played Monday, February 9th in Grand Rapids, Michigan at Van Andel Arena.
