Columbus Recalls Aaron Johnson and Joe Motzko

Syracuse, NY (February 2, 2004) – The Syracuse Crunch announced today that the Columbus Blue Jackets have recalled defenseman Aaron Johnson and right wing Joe Motzko.

Johnson, 20, has appeared in 39 games with Syracuse this season, recording 5 goals, 14 assists and 50 penalty minutes. Johnson made his NHL debut with Columbus on December 2 against the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim. On December 4, Johnson recorded his first NHL point, an assist, against Nashville. In three games with Columbus this season, Johnson has one assist and two penalty minutes. A native of Port Hawkesbury, Nova Scotia, Johnson was Columbus' fourth pick, 85th overall, in the 2001 Entry Draft.

Motzko, 23, has appeared in 44 games with Syracuse this season, recording 11 goals, 14 assists and 22 penalty minutes. His 25 points leads all Crunch rookies. Motzko made his professional debut April 4, 2003 with Syracuse and appeared in two games with the club. A native of Bemidji, Minnesota, Motzko was signed as a free agent by Columbus on May 15, 2003.

Syracuse travels to St. John's on Tuesday, February 3 and Wednesday, February 4. Both games begin at 6:05 p.m. EST.
