Shane Willis named AHL Player of the Week

HERSHEY – The HERSHEY BEARS announced today in conjunction with the American Hockey League that right wing Shane Willis has been named Sher-Wood AHL Player of the Week for the period ending February 1.

Willis, a native of Edmonton, Alberta, scored four goals in three games last week including a two-goal effort Friday night at Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. He scored the first short-handed goal against the Penguins this season in a 3-1 victory at Wachovia Arena. He also scored a power-play goal against Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Friday. The BEARS won two of three games last week despite scoring only six goals, and stand just three points behind first place Bridgeport in the East Division standings.

Willis was assigned to HERSHEY by the Tampa Bay Lightning on January 14th In the ten games that the BEARS have played since then, he has collected nine goals. Willis becomes the first HERSHEY player to receive the league's player of the week honor since Phil Sauve was honored last season for the week ending December 15th, 2002.

The BEARS will be at home this Wednesday night when the Albany River Rats come to town. Face-off Wednesday night is at 7:30 p.m. Following a road game at Binghamton Friday, HERSHEY will finish off the pre All-Star game schedule with a home game against the Syracuse Crunch Saturday night. Face-off Saturday is set for 7:00 p.m.
