
Moose earn split with Aeros

The Manitoba Moose wrapped up a four-game homestand this past week with a split against the Houston Aeros. The Moose fell 5-2 Friday night but bounced back to win 7-2 on Saturday. The Moose now head back out on the road this week as they embark on a seven-game road trip broken up by the all-star break. The Moose play three games in three nights Thursday, Friday and Saturday -- two games in Cleveland with a match-up against Rochester sandwiched in between.

The Americans sit three points back of the Barons for second in the North Division (21-17-7-3), but are only two points up on the Syracuse Crunch in fourth...The Americans are 15-11-4-2 within the North Division...They are 15- 7-2-0 at the Rochester War Memorial...Both teams have a win and a loss each so far this year in the opposition building...The Americans loss at the Winnipeg Arena came on an overtime goal by Pat Kavanagh (4-3) back on December 5/03...Norm Milley is the leading scorer for the Amerks vs. the Moose this year with a goal and three assists in four games...Pat Kavanagh is Manitoba's leading active scorer against Rochester with three goals...Ryan Miller has appeared in three games against the Moose with two wins and a loss to go with a 1.95 GAA and a .937 save percentage...Both Alex Auld and Tyler Moss have appeared in one game against Rochester for the Moose; Auld has a win and a 2.78 GAA while Moss took a loss and has a 2.03 GAA....Jason Pominville is the Americans' leading scorer this season with 20 goals and 20 assists for 40 points; he is tied for 12th in league scoring and leads the league with 15 power play goals...Domenic Pittis leads the AHL with 23 power play points...Miller has the third-most number of saves in the league at 971; he has appeared in 34 games, won 15 and has a goals against average of 2.18...Milan Bartovic, who began the week with the Buffalo Sabres, has a five-game AHL goal scoring streak on the go along with a 10 game points streak...Defenceman David Cullen is tied for fourth in league scoring amongst defenceman with six goals and 27 points and leads the league in power play points from the blue-line with 20...Overall, Rochester has the league's seventh-ranked power play with a 16.5% success rate, while they are also seventh in penalty killing at 87.4%...The Americans leading +/- player is Rick Mrozik at +4, while Sean McMorrow is the team's leader in PIM with 144 in 28 games.
MOOSE NOTES
The Moose enter the week 8-12-4- 2 on the road with two wins in their last nine. During their last eightgame road trip, they secured only one victory (1-4-2-1).
This week will be Manitoba's third "three-games-in-three nights" stretch this season. In the previous two, the Moose went 1-2-0 between Dec. 12-14 (5-4OTW @ SYR; 2-7L @ CLE; 2-4L @ HAM), and then went 1-2-0 between Jan. 9-11 (3- 2W @ ROC; 0-6L @ HAM; 1-2L @ ROC). Manitoba will play two more such stretches this season.
Jason King returned for a second time this season from the Vancouver Canucks and scored two goals in two games over the weekend with the Moose. His goal on Friday, January 30/04 was his first as a Moose since April 5/03 @ STJ's. The goal was his first overall, whether as a Moose or Canuck, since Nov. 25/03 @ MTL.
The seven goals scored on Saturday, January 31 in a 7-2 victory vs. HOU are the most goals scored in one game by the Moose this season.
After failing to score a single goal in 14 games, Nolan Baumgartner scored on Friday, Jan. 30 vs. HOU and then followed that up with three assists Saturday, Jan. 30 vs. HOU. Previous to that, Baumgartner had just two assists in 12 games.
After scoring three power play goals in 14 attempts on the weekend, the Moose are now ranked 18th in the AHL with the man-advantage with a success rate of 13.4%. After allowing four power play goals 16 attempts on the weekend, the penalty killing unit is ranked 24th at 81.9%.
The Moose allowed a shorthanded goal on Friday, Jan. 30 vs. HOU. They have now allowed a leaguehigh eight shorthanded goals against.
Fedor Fedorov scored two goals and an assist in two games vs. HOU. As a result, he has five points in his last five games. Since returning from suspension, Fedorov has seven points (4G,3A) in eight games.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK NOMINEE
Nolan Baumgartner

This week's Player of the Week nominee for the Manitoba Moose is defenceman Nolan Baumgartner. Over the two games played, Baumgartner scored a goal and added three assists for four points. He also had a +2 rating and 28 penalty minutes. Baumgartner scored his goal on Friday, Jan. 30 and added three assists on Saturday, Jan. 31 in being named the game's first star. He was also a +3 Saturday evening. Baumgartner, who was Manitoba's defenceman of the year in 2002-03, has five goals and 11 assists for 16 points in 38 games this season.
