Barons Snip Stars 3-2 In A Shootout

Cedar Park, TX - The Texas Stars (32-20-4-5, 73 points) were defeated by the Oklahoma City Barons (32-21-2-5, 71 points) 3-2 in a shootout on Sunday night in front of 5,545 fans at Cedar Park Center. Right wing Colin McDonald scored the decisive goal in the shootout to lift Oklahoma City over the Stars for the first in six games. Texas goalie Richard Bachman (21-14-4) stopped 35 of 37 shots in regulation, helping the Stars salvage a point in the shootout defeat. Defenseman Trevor Ludwig and right wing Greg Rallo each scored in regulation, as the Stars fell to 0-1-1-2 in their last four games. Center Aaron Gagnon had a multi-point night with two assists to spark a Stars two-goal rally. Oklahoma City goalie Bryan Pitton (3-1-0) stopped 29 shots in regulation and four of five to preserve the shootout win. The Stars host the Abbotsford Heat at 7:30 PM on Tuesday at Cedar Park Center.

Left wing Philippe Cornet scored the lone goal of the first period as Oklahoma City jumped out to an early 1-0 lead. Defenseman Richard Petiot and right wing Mark Arcobello each tallied an assist on Cornet's fifth goal of the season at 4:01 of the first period.

The Barons notched another early period goal just 2:07 into the middle frame. Left wing Teemu Hartikainen scored his 16th goal of the season to extend Oklahoma City's lead to 2-0. Texas defenseman Trevor Ludwig secured his first goal of the year at 12:08. Center Aaron Gagnon and defenseman Dan Spang each supplied an assist to cut the lead in half at 2-1. Texas came back late in the middle period with a goal from right wing Greg Rallo that trickled past Bryan Pitton to tie the game 2-2. Defenseman Jordie Benn and Gagnon each assisted on the play with just 1:03 left in second period of play.

After a scoreless third period and overtime, the two teams skated to a shootout. Right wing Mark Arcobello and Colin McDonald each scored for the Barons in the shootout. Texas center Aaron Gagnon had the only Stars shootout goal on five attempts. Texas goalie Richard Bachman stopped three of five attempts, while Oklahoma City's Pitton stopped four of five to win the shootout.

The Texas Stars welcome the Abbotsford Heat to the Cedar Park Center on Tuesday at 7:30 PM. Every Tuesday is an H-E-B Night as fans may bring any non-perishable H-E-B food item to the Cedar Park Center box office to receive a $5.00 discount off their ticket. Tuesday is also a 3-2-1 Night, where fans may purchase $3.00 domestic drafts, $2.00 soft drinks and $1.00 hot dogs. Texas hosts the San Antonio Rampage on Friday at 7:30 PM, also a 3-2-1 Night. The Stars take on the Houston Aeros on Saturday at 7:00 PM. Saturday is Military Appreciation Night and the first 2,500 fans will receive a Texas Stars camouflage hat, sponsored by SportClips. The Stars will also wear military themed jerseys to be auctioned off after the game with proceeds benefiting the Cedar Park Veterans Memorial. Fans may also purchase the State Farm Family Four Pack consisting of four tickets, four sodas and four hot dogs for $44.
