Troy Milam gave the Admirals the 1-0 lead with his team-leading sixth power play goal of the campaign. As the Admirals enjoyed a five-on-three man advantage, defenseman Mark Barberio fed a pass to Milam who was standing on the Devils' blue line. Milam fired a slap shot through a screen that snuck through the five-hole of Devils' goaltender Jeff Frazee for his eleventh goal of the season at the 9:07 mark of the opening period.

The Admirals doubled their lead with their second power play goal of the game. Admirals' goal-leader Johan Harju fired a shot on net from the low slot that deflected off Frazee and directly to defenseman Mark Barberio.
