February 27, 2011 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Rochester Americans News Release

Rochester, NY -- Keaton Ellerby netted an overtime beauty just a minute into the extra session that lifted the Rochester Americans over the Syracuse Crunch 2-1 this afternoon at The Blue Cross Arena. The win is the Amerks' third straight in three days and they have collected a point in nine of their last 10 games, tying them for fifth place in the American Hockey League's North Division with the Abbotsford Heat. Rochester is now 28-27-3-3 overall, while with Syracuse slips to 20-32-3-4 in the loss.

Ellerby (1+0) and second star Michael Dubuc (1+0) came through for the Amerks this afternoon, each scoring one apiece. Dubuc's came after signing his second professional tryout with the team earlier today. In his Rochester debut, Tim Kennedy also earned his first point in an Amerks uniform assisting on Dubuc's goal. Chris Taylor reached a career milestone in the game, playing his 500th in the red, white and blue. Taylor makes one of six select Amerks players to have done so in his professional career. In his 12 th straight start, Rochester goaltender Tyler Plante posted 40 saves, earning him first star honors.

Leading the Crunch today was Josh Green (1+0), who scored the sole goal for the club. Syracuse netminder and third star of the game J.P. Levasseur stopped 27 shots between the pipes.

The Amerks took control of the scoreboard just under midway through the opening period when Dubuc netted his second tally of the season. After Levasseur denied AJ Jenks' (0+1) initial shot, Jenks sent the puck to Kennedy, who touched it briefly before it went to Dubuc's stick. Dubuc then snapped a high-wrister from the top of the right circle and beat Levasseur high on the blocker side at 9:45.

The Crunch tied the game at one apiece when Green took advantage of the power-play. Green scored on the give-and-go from Patrick Maroon (0+1). Green's 10th goal of the season came at the 12:30 mark of the second period. Michael Duco was in the box for the Amerks on a boarding call.

Rochester was unable to respond to Green's goal in regulation, so the two teams headed for five minutes of overtime play. The winning play came within the first minute when Clay Wilson (0+1) wristed a shot against Levasseur, who shut him down. Mark Cullen (0+1) grabbed the rebound and sent it to the right circle where Ellerby was waiting. Ellerby then blasted the puck into the open net to give the Amerks a 2-1 victory over the Crunch just 1:01 into overtime, their third straight win.

The Amerks travel to Van Andel Arena on Friday, March 4th to take on the Grand Rapids Griffins in the first of back-to-back tilts to kickoff their March slate. The 7:00 p.m. contest will be broadcast live on SportsRadio 1280 WHTK and FM 107.3, Rochester's Sports Talk.
