Cleveland Barons News Release

CLEVELAND, OH -- Out-shooting the Marlies 41-29 in the game wasn't enough for the Barons who were defeated in shootouts by Toronto on Thursday night, 4-3. Patrick Rissmiller registered three points (2+1=3) in the contest.

The Barons first objective in the game was to score the contest's opening goal, which they did, for just the third time in the last fifteen games. Patrick Rissmiller batted a puck out of mid-air for his 12th of the season and a Barons 1-0 lead. Tomas Plihal earned the lone assist on the goal at the 6:39 mark of the stanza. Toronto answered at even strength on Jeremy Williams' first goal of the night and 15th of the season. The slap-shot goal by Williams was set up by Colin Murphy and Marc Moro with 2:18 remaining in the period.

The Marlies jumped out to a two goal lead early in the second period and held on through forty minutes for a 3-2 lead after middle frame. Tyler Beechey and Williams scored goals 3:27 apart to take a 3-1 lead through the opening 7:59 of the game. Murphy assisted on the Williams' goal for his second assist of the evening. The Barons were able to climb within one before the period came to a close as Rissmiller scored his second of the night and 13th of the year on a power play deflection. While the Barons skated five-on-three, Josh Hennessy ripped a shot-on-goal, which Rissmiller got a stick on in front of the Marlies goal. Ryane Clowe also assisted on the goal and has now registered at least one point in 13 of the 19 games he has played at the AHL level.

It was Clowe scoring the third period's only goal forcing an overtime session. With a power play the Barons tic-tac-toed the puck around the Marlies' zone setting up Clowe on the far post for his 10th of the season. Rissmiller and Hennessy assisted on the goal to secure multi-point nights.

Each team registered two shots-on-goal in the overtime session but were unsuccessful in scoring. The Barons finished the night out-shooting the Marlies in each period and 41-29 overall. Cleveland was 2 for 7 on the power play and held Toronto to an 0 for 3 day with the power play.

In took six rounds to decide a winner in the shootouts with Colin Murphy scoring twice for the Marlies, including the game deciding goal. The Barons were defeated for the ninth straight game (0-7-1-1). Nolan Schaefer finished the day with 25-saves in the losing effort and J.F. Racine stopped 38-saves for the win.

The Barons nine-game home stand continues with a game at National City Rink tomorrow night at 7 O'clock. Friday night the first 3,000 fans will receive a FREE authentically autographed action photo of Barons defenseman Garrett Stafford prior to the Barons third meeting of the year against the Chicago Wolves. Friday night fans can bring their skates for a post-game skate with the Barons players. Ticket and broadcast information for Friday's game is available at the Barons official web site, www.clevelandbarons.net.
