Lancaster Stormers News Release
The Lancaster Barnstormers unleashed their pent up offensive fury on Wednesday evening.
After scoring only 14 runs in the first six games of the season, Lancaster slammed 16 hits, including seven for extra bases en route to an 11-5 victory over the York Revolution at Santander Stadium.
The Barnstormers improved to 2-5 on the season opening road trip and head home only two games behind Sugar Land in the Freedom Division.
Lancaster jumped on Corey Thurman (0-1) for four runs in the first inning, aided by two consecutive Eric Patterson errors. Yusuke Kajimoto opened the game with a single to right center, followed by misplays on grounders by Tyler Bortnick and Blake Gailen. Brian Cavazos-Galvez furthered the damage with a two-run double to left center for a 3-0 lead. He eventually crossed the plate on Lance Zawadzki's sacrifice fly to center.
The Barnstormers and York exchanged runs over the next few innings. Gailen made it 5-0 with an RBI single off the "Arch Nemesis," the large green wall in left in the second. Brandon Jones' second homer of the series and a perfect RBI bunt hit by Patterson trimmed the lead back to 5-2 in the bottom of the inning, and York sliced one more off the lead on an RBI force play grounder by Salvador Paniagua in the third.
Tyler Bortnick cracked a one-out solo homer in the third for a 6-3 lead, and David Cooper singled home Gailen later in the inning to stretch the lead to 7-3.
Again, York fought back against Dan Osterbrock as Patterson walked, stole second and scored on Andres Perez' single in the bottom of the inning.
Pete Andrelczyk (1-0) yielded three hits and a walk in the next two innings but held the fort as the infield converted two double plays behind him. Lancaster built the lead in that stretch as Cavazoe-Galvez launched a two-run homer to left in the sixth.
Dan Coury added the final home run leading off the seventh against Shawn Teufel, and Masato Fukae, the final Barnstormer to collect a hit, completed the Lancaster scoring with a triple and a passed ball in the top of the ninth.
The series shifts to Clipper Magazine Stadium for Thursday evening's home opener. P.J. Walters gets the nod for Lancaster against right-hander Shawn Hill for York. Fans may tune into 1390-AM, WLAN, 1390wlan.com or the I Heart Radio cell phone app, beginning at 7:00 PM.
NOTES: Cooper stretched his hitting streak to seven games...Gailen had his fourth multi-hit game of the road trip and Bortnick had his third...Osterbrock walked four, one more than in any start last season...Lancaster had two runners thrown out stealing in the second, ending their streak of perfection for the year...The club is now 7-for-9...Andrelczyk has thrown six innings in seven games.
