Bluefish Reel in Patriots for Third Straight Win

(Bridgeport, Conn. - April 29, 2015) - The Bridgeport Bluefish (3-2) sent eight batters to the plate while scoring four runs in the bottom half of the second inning as they picked up the 7-4 win over the Somerset Patriots (2-3) to take the first two games of the three game set at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard. Starting pitcher D.J. Mitchell (1-0) pitched five solid innings in his second start of the season, allowing four hits and two runs (one earned) walking one and striking out six.

In the bottom half of the second inning with the game scoreless, Luis Rodriguez crushed a two run double to right, scoring Andres Rodriguez and Ryan Babineau to give the 'Fish the early 2-0 lead. Ildemaro Vargas followed with a run-scoring single of his own, plating Rodriguez to extend the lead to three. The rally concluded with an RBI single off the bat of Sean Burroughs, scoring Vargas. All four runs were charged to Patriots starting pitcher Tyler Herron (0-1), who suffered the loss.

The Bluefish go for the sweep tomorrow night, Thursday, April 30th at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard when they welcome the Somerset Patriots in final game of the season-opening six-game homestand. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
