Revs Denied Sweep To Close Opening Homestand
April 29, 2015 - Atlantic League (AtL)
York Revolution News Release
The York Revolution were denied a sweep in the home portion of their series against the Lancaster Barnstormers, falling 11-5 on Wednesday evening at Santander Stadium to close their opening homestand. The two teams will meet again in Lancaster on Thursday night for the Barnstormers' home opener. York concludes its season-opening homestand with a 3-3 record, while Lancaster heads home with a 2-5 mark.
The Barnstormers set the tone early, scoring four times in the top of the first. After a leadoff single by Yusuke Kajimoto, back-to-back errors by second baseman Eric Patterson attempting to turn double plays allowed the first run to score. Brian Cavazos-Galvez followed with a two-run double to left-center, and Lance Zawadski later added a sacrifice fly as part of the bat-around inning, as the Barnstormers scored three unearned runs en route to a 4-0 lead.
The Revs made a bid at slashing into the deficit right away as Lancaster starter Dan Osterbrock loaded the bases on three consecutive walks with one out in the first, but the lefty rebounded to record a popup and a strikeout to squelch the threat.
Lancaster added another run in the second on an RBI single to left by Blake Gailen for a 5-0 lead.
The Revs got on the board in the bottom of the second as Brandon Jones led off with a home run to right, his league-leading third of the young season. Patterson later dropped down a squeeze bunt, plating Brandon Boggs with two outs to pull within 5-2.
Salvador Paniagua added an RBI on a fielder's choice in the third, bringing home Johan Limonta who had led off the inning with a double to deep center, as the Revs clawed within a 5-3 deficit.
Lancaster responded with a pair of runs in the fourth as Tyler Bortnick connected on a solo home run to left-center, and David Cooper smacked an RBI single to left-center, increasing the margin to 7-3.
York again inched back as Patterson worked a two-out walk, stole second, and scored on a single to center by Andres Perez, cutting it to 7-4.
Cavazos-Galvez added a two-run homer high over the Arch Nemesis in the sixth and Dan Coury led off the seventh with a solo blast to left-center for Lancaster's third round-tripper of the night. The Barnstormers scored once more in the ninth as Masato Fukae launched a deep fly ball off the right field fence for a two-out triple, before scoring on a passed ball as Lancaster's lead grew to 11-4.
The Revs managed to score one more run in the ninth as Jones rapped an RBI single to left-center.
Barnstormers reliever Pete Andrelczyk (1-0) picked up the win with two scoreless innings.
Revs starter Corey Thurman (0-1) took the loss in his season debut, charged with five runs (two earned) over three innings.
Lancaster entered the game batting .224 as a team, but pounded out 16 hits including seven extra-base hits and three home runs. Cavazos-Galvez led the attack with four RBI, while every starter had a hit.
Notes: Paniagua threw out two runners attempting to steal, both in the second inning, nailing Kajimoto and Gailen at second base. York third baseman Bryan Pounds was one of five Revs batters to register multiple hits, going 2-for-5 to extend his hitting streak to a team-best five consecutive games. York righty Shawn Hill (0-1, 3.00) makes his second start on Thursday night, facing Lancaster's P.J. Walters (0-1, 3.18). First pitch for the Barnstormers' home opener is scheduled for approximately 7:15 p.m. Fans can catch the action live on SportsRadio 1350, woyk1350.com, and on the WOYK mobile apps beginning at 6:50 p.m. with Darrell Henry and Ray Jensen on the call.
