Long Island Ducks News Release
(Waldorf, Md., April 29, 2015) - The Long Island Ducks shut out the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs 3-0 on Wednesday night in the third game of a four-game series at Regency Furniture Stadium.
Cody Puckett put the Ducks in front with a mammoth solo home run to left field in the second inning off Blue Crabs starter Brian Burres. It remained 1-0 until the fifth when Evan Crawford doubled the lead on a two-out RBI single to center. Long Island added an insurance run in the eighth inning thanks to Mike Blanke's two-out RBI single to left.
That was more than enough for Mickey Jannis (1-0) to earn his first win, as he tossed five innings, allowing just two hits while striking out three. Burres (0-1) suffered the loss, giving up two runs (one earned) on four hits and one walk with four strikeouts in six innings. Ryan Kussmaul earned his fourth save of the year with a perfect ninth inning, and four Ducks relievers combined to allow just one hit over four innings while striking out five.
Long Island and Southern Maryland wrap up their four-game set on Thursday night. Game time is slated for 7:05 p.m. at Regency Furniture Stadium. Right-hander Mark Rogers gets the start for the Ducks against Blue Crabs righty and former Duck Shaun Garceau. Fans can follow all the action live online, with streaming audio available via the Ducks official YouTube channel.
