Lancaster Stormers News Release

Two players who may have been overlooked as Atlantic League All-Stars made a huge statement for the Camden Riversharks on Monday evening.

Bryan Pounds went 3-for-4 with a pair of triples, and Jose Julio-Ruiz drove in three runs with two doubles and a sacrifice fly as the Riversharks drowned the Lancaster Barnstormers, 8-3, in the second half opener for both clubs.

Pounds tripled home an unearned run in the bottom half of the first with a fly ball that landed just fair down the right field line. He scored the second run of the inning as Julio-Ruiz cracked a long double that one-hopped the fence in right for a 2-1 lead.

Camden's 3-4 hitters teamed up again in the third. Pounds tripled again, this time over Cole Garner's head in center, and scored on Ruiz' fly ball down the left side as the Riversharks grabbed a 3-1 edge.

Following a change in home plate umpires, the Barnstormers managed to tie the game in the fifth as Fred Lewis followed three walks from right-hander Wes Torrez with a two-run single inside the third base bag. The uprising died there with the game at 3-3, and the Riversharks salted it away in the bottom of the fifth.

With one out, Yasser Gomez beat out an infield single toward the middle. Paddy Matera drew a walk on a 3-2 offering from Brandon Mann (1-2), and Pounds knocked a pitch up the middle for a go-ahead single. Julio-Ruiz knocked Mann out of the game with his second double to right as the Riversharks went up, 5-3.

Pete Andrelczyk got the second out on a grounder to third, freezing the runners. Lancaster intentionally walked Alex Hudak to load the bases. Lance Zawadzki reached Brian Van Kirk's slow roller up the middle and tried to feed his brother, Grant, at second base for the third out, but the throw was late and got away, allowing a second run to score on the play. Michael Albaladejo capped the scoring with a ground single through the left side.

Lancaster's relievers retired the final 10 Camden batters, six on strikes. Lancaster managed a pair of doubles and one walk over the rest of the evening.

Dan Blewett (2-2), who entered the game in the fifth and struck out Andrew Clark for the final out there, earned the win.

The two clubs meet again on Tuesday evening. Lancaster will send right-hander Mark Rogers (3-2) against right-hander Zachary Clark (1-1). Fans may tune into 1390-AM, WLAN; 1600-AM, WPDC; 1390wlan.com or the I Heart Radio cell phone app, beginning at 6:45.
