Somerset Patriots Announce All-Stars

Bridgewater, NJ - The Somerset Patriots have announced that catcher Adam Donachie, third baseman Corey Smith, and pitcher Matt Zielinski have been named as 2014 Atlantic League All-Stars. Cory Domel has been named the All-Star Pitching Coach.

Donachie finished the first half of the season as the team leader in hitting with his .294 batting average. Donachie had 37 hits, three doubles, five home runs, and 29 RBI in 40 games played in the half.

Smith hit .291 with 67 hits, 17 doubles, seven home runs, and a team high 41 RBI in 65 games played in the first half. It is Smith's second straight Atlantic League All-Star selection. He was the MVP of last year's game after winning the home run derby that served as the tie-breaker for the game.

Zielinski finished the half with a share of the team lead in wins with seven, boasting a 7-2 record and a 2.79 ERA and 51 strikeouts in 77.1 innings pitched in 13 games.

Since joining the Somerset Patriots last season as Pitching Coach, Domel's pitching staff has consistently ranked as among the best in the league. Last year the Patriots finished with a 3.62 ERA (2nd) and this year the team had a 3.34 ERA (2nd) for the half.

The 2014 Atlantic League All-Star Game will take place in Sugar Land, Texas on Wednesday, July 16th and will feature Atlantic League All-Stars against the Sugar Land Skeeters team.
