Three Bluefish Named to All-Star Team

(Bridgeport, Conn. - July 7, 2014) - Bridgeport Bluefish team officials today announced that three members of the team have been selected to participate in the 2014 Atlantic League All-Star Game. Outfielder James Simmons and catcher J.R. Towles will be joined by pitcher Tim Gustafson.
"We are very pleased to have these three players represent the Bluefish during the 2014 Atlantic League All-Star Game," says Bluefish general manager Ken Shepard. "They have been key members of our team during the first half of the season and are deserving of this accomplishment."
Simmons has impressed during his third tour in the Park City as he ranks second in the Atlantic League in runs scored (52), third in extra-base hits (30), fourth in hits (79) and total bases (131), and fifth in doubles (17) and triples (4). He also leads the team in all of those categories while batting .293, stealing eight bases and posting a .349 on-base percentage. Towles, in his first season with the ball club, is batting .322 with seven home runs, nine doubles, 26 RBI, and 21 runs scored, while carry a 1.026 OPS.
Gustafson has been a significant contributor for the Bluefish pitching staff in the bullpen. He has appeared in 27 games for Bridgeport, compiling a 2.10 ERA with 38 strikeouts over the course of 34.1 innings pitched.
Simmons, Towles and Gustafson will represent the Bluefish on the Atlantic League squad managed by Lancaster skipper Butch Hobson at the 2014 All-Star Game, which takes place July 16 at Constellation Field, home of the Sugar Land Skeeters, in Sugar Land, Texas. All-Star selections were the results of fan, media and front office polling, which took place throughout the league and individual team web sites.
The 2014 Atlantic League All-Star festivities will begin on Tuesday, July 15 as the Skeeters will host a free Fan Fest and Kevin Fowler concert, which will begin at 6:00 p.m. CST. The 2014 Atlantic League All-Star Game and Home Run Derby will take place on Wednesday, July 16 at 6:00 p.m. CST at Constellation Field.
