Lancaster Stormers News Release

J.D. Durbin pitched six strong innings, leading a pack of newcomers in key roles, as Lancaster grabbed a 3-2 victory from the Bridgeport Bluefish Saturday evening at Harbor Yard.

With the win, the Barnstormers retained a one-game lead in the Freedom Division over the York Revolution, who have won 11 of their last 13.

Durbin (1-1) started slowly, allowing a run on the first two batters he faced, but ended up working six innings. He yielded six hits and the two Bridgeport runs while walking only one and striking out five.

Lancaster was unable to reach lefty Matt Smith (1-4) in the first three innings but finally managed in the fourth. Fernando Seguignol yanked a one-out single into left. With two outs, Adam Calderone, playing in his first Atlantic League game, pulled a deep fly ball into the right center alley. Seguignol came chugging around and slid past a tag attempt by Luis Rodriguez to score the tying run. Calderone, who was awarded a triple, scored on a single lined into center by another relative newcomer, catcher Angel Flores.

The Bluefish would tie the game on Durbin's first pitch in the bottom of the fourth as Steve Moss clubbed his seventh homer of the season. J.C. Holt made a diving catch in left center on the next hitter, Brock Peterson, and Durbin was able to settle back down, using a pair of double plays to cancel out any future threats.

Gilberto Mejia beat out a bunt to third with one out in the fifth. Holt singled into left, advancing Mejia to second. Both runners moved ahead on a wild pitch, and Mejia was brought home with the decisive run on a long sacrifice fly to right by Tommy Everidge.

Durbin surrendered a leadoff single in the sixth by Luis Lopez but set the side down in order afterward. Jon Huber threw only four pitches to get the three outs in the seventh. Yunior Novoa and T.J. Beam combined to pitch a 1-2-3 eighth frame. Jonah Bayliss survived a one-out single by Moss in the ninth to record his third save.

Lancaster and Bridgeport will play the rubber game of the three-game series on Sunday evening at 7:05. Ross Peeples (6-2) will start for the Barnstormers. Bridgeport will counter with right-hander Matt Pike (4-2). The game will be aired on Fox Sports Radio, 1490, WLPA and streamed live on sportsjuice.com.
