Somerset Patriots News Release
The Somerset Patriots have announced that they have teamed up with the Lupus Foundation of America, New Jersey Chapter, Inc. to host Lupus Awareness Night at TD Bank Ballpark on Saturday, July 2nd for their 7:05 pm game against the Long Island Ducks.
The Lupus Foundation of America (National Organization) and the Lupus Foundation of America, New Jersey Chapter, Inc. (LFANJ) are leading the effort to find a cure for the disease. Lupus is a chronic, autoimmune disease that can damage any part of the body (skin, joints and/or organs inside the body). The disease often strikes women of childbearing age, 15- 44. In the United States, it is believed that at least 1.5 million people - women, men, teens, and children - have lupus.
"One of the goals of the New Jersey Chapter of the Lupus Foundation is to make the public aware of this disease, which affects so many and their families. By partnering with the Somerset Patriots for Lupus Awareness Night, it allows us to reach a large section of the population in New Jersey and make them aware that we are here for the lupus patient and their families," said Lenny Andriuzzi, President and CEO of the New Jersey Chapter.
The game will include a Post-Game Fireworks Extravaganza presented by Celgene. The LFANJ will be holding a 50/50 raffle to raise funds that will assist with special support services for those affected by lupus. Fans are encouraged to stop by the LFANJ's concourse table and pick up some information to raise awareness or to share with others who may benefit from the Foundation's support services.
"The Somerset Patriots are excited to partner with the Lupus Foundation of America, New Jersey Chapter for the third straight year to host Lupus Awareness Night," said Patrick McVerry, President and General Manager of the Somerset Patriots. "It's an important event to raise funds to support those with Lupus while also creating awareness about the disease and it's symptoms."
The LFANJ provides referrals, social services and case management, and educational resources and programs for those affected by lupus, their families as well as the healthcare and scientific communities. The LFANJ also advocates on behalf of its constituents and continues to promote awareness throughout the State of New Jersey. The Foundation has seven support groups throughout northern and central New Jersey.
