Bridgeport Bluefish News Release
Bridgeport, Conn. - The Bridgeport Bluefish (27-28) suffered a 3-2 defeat to the Lancaster Barnstormers (33-22) at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard on Saturday night. The loss snaps a two-game winning streak for Bridgeport.
Matt Smith (1-4) pitched five innings and allowed three earned runs as he took the loss. Chris Rivera did not allow a run in his inning of work. Julio Manon made his debut with Bridgeport and tossed two scoreless frames while Antonio Alfonseca pitched a perfect ninth.
J.D. Durbin (1-1) tossed six innings and allowed two runs in earning his first victory with the Barnstormers. A combination of four relievers threw three shutout innings, including Jonah Bayliss. Bayliss notched his third save of the season.
Bridgeport scored the first run of the contest in the first. Danny Putnam led off with a double and scored on a single down the right field line from Angel Chavez.
Lancaster took the lead in the fourth by scoring twice. Fernando Seguignol singled with one out. After a second out had been recorded, Adam Calderone doubled to push Seguignol across. On a throw home, Calderone moved to third. Angel Flores sent a screaming single up the middle to give the road team a 2-1 lead.
Bridgeport tied the contest at two, in the bottom of the frame, because of a solo shot to leftcenter from Steve Moss. It was the outfielders' seventh shot of the season.
The Barnstormers offense put up one more run in the fifth. With one out, Gilberto Mejia and J.C. Holt singled to establish runners at first and second. During a Tommy Everidge at-bat, a wild pitch allowed the runners to move into scoring position. Everidge followed by sending a sacrifice fly to right to put Lancaster back on top 3-2.
Luis Lopez is closing in on the 2,000 hit plateau. The third baseman is 29 hits shy of that mark for his Minor League career after going 1-3 on Saturday. Moss had his second consecutive multiple hit night for the Bluefish as he had two hits in four plate appearances.
Bridgeport finishes a three-game series against the Lancaster Barnstormers on Sunday Night at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05. The gates open one hour prior to first pitch.
