
White Sox Sign Furnish

Bridgeport, Conn. - Bridgeport Bluefish team officials today announced that pitcher Brad Furnish has had his contract purchased by the Chicago White Sox organization. The lefthander will report to Single-A Winston Salem of the Carolina League.
"It's great to see a player like Brad receive this opportunity," says Bluefish manager Willie Upshaw. "He has been an important cog in our pitching staff this year and we wish him the best of luck."
Furnish appeared in 15 games (three starts) for the Bluefish in 2011, posting a 2-1 record with a 2.70 ERA. He struck out 32 batters over the course of 36.2 innings pitched and help opposing hitters to a .218 batting average. Last season, the lefthander was a member of Independent Gary of the Northern League. He appeared in 39 games, posting a 4-0 record with a 3.28 ERA, two saves and 49 strikeouts in 49.1 innings pitched. The 26-year-old began his professional career in 2006 with State College (A, Cardinals) of the New York Penn League following a successful collegiate season at TCU. Furnish owns a 27-25 career minor league record with a 4.21 ERA and 389 strikeouts over the course of 491.2 innings of work. Brad was selected by the St. Louis Cardinals in the second round of the 2006 amateur draft.
