Lancaster Stormers News Release

Jim Magrane was sailing with two outs in the seventh inning. The Somerset right-hander was working on a three-hitter and holding a 2-1 lead.

Suddenly, for the first time in more than 30 innings, the Lancaster bats came alive.

Lancaster reeled off five straight hits to score four quick runs on the way to a 7-3 win over the Patriots in the opener of a two-game series.

The Barnstormers drew back to .500 in the second half with the win and stayed with three games of first place York.

Angel Flores began the barrage with a two-out single into right center. Gilberto Mejia singled through the large hole on the right side. Wayne Lydon fought off pitches before dumping a short fly ahead of charging left field Justin Huber to score Flores to tie the game at 2-2. A two-run double by Tommy Everidge chased Magrane (1-2), and Fernando Seguignol rode a Jeff Kennard pitch into right center for another double as Lancaster took charge, 5-2.

Somerset threatened immediately. Daniel DeGeorge cranked the first pitch from Matt Wright to the left field wall in the bottom of the seventh. With Joe Holden batting, a pitch kicked past catcher Angel Flores and went to the backstop. Lancaster thought the ball hit Holden's foot, and the confusion allowed DeGeorge to race around with the run.

Holden eventually grounded out, but a single flared to left by Joe Burke was enough to have the 'Stormers replace Wright (5-9). Kris Regas struck out Fernando Cortez for the second out of the inning. Tim McNab retired Jeff Nettles on a deep liner to left center run down by Lydon.

Solo homers by Travis Metcalf and Lydon over the next two innings off Casey Cahill put the game away for the Barnstormers. Everidge had homered earlier in the game for the Barnstormers first run.

Matt Hagen had a double and homer for Somerset.

Wright worked 6 1/3 innings, allowing 10 hits and three runs to notch his fourth win since July 1. The right-hander walked two and struck out six.

Lancaster and Somerset will complete their brief series on Tuesday evening. Cesar Carrillo (3-11) will make the start for the Barnstormers against Derell McCall (4-6). Game time is 7:05. The game will be aired on Fox Sports Radio, 1490, WLPA and streamed live on sportsjuice.com.

NOTES: Everidge's homer snapped his longest drought of the year at 14 games...He is now two away from the franchise doubles record and three from the homer mark...Lydon was playing his first game since cutting his right forefinger on a play at the plate last Thursday...Seguignol hit in his fifth straight game since returning from the inactive list.
