York Revolution News Release
The York Revolution reached new heights, moving a club-record 15 games over .500 with a 5-2 victory over the Bridgeport Bluefish in front of 4,004 fans at Sovereign Bank Stadium on Tuesday evening. Armed with a four-game winning streak, the Revs will go for a sweep to close out the six-game homestand on Wednesday.
Jose Herrera provided the big blow with a third inning grand slam, and York's pitching nailed it down from there.
Lefty Jack Spradlin made a spot start, going three innings while allowing just one run on a two-out single by Luis Lopez in the third inning. Spradlin struck out a season-high five.
Dumas Garcia (1-2) worked a scoreless fourth and fifth inning for his first victory with York.
Prentice Redman cracked a solo homer to left field with two outs in the seventh bringing Bridgeport within 4-2, but that was the only run allowed by reliever Ronnie Morales who made his league-leading 61st appearance with 1.2 innings.
R.J. Rodriguez recorded the final out of the seventh and came back with a perfect eighth. Michael Nix earned his 16th save, fourth most in the league, retiring Felix Molina on a game-ending 6-4-3 double play in the ninth.
The Revs plated an insurance run in the bottom of the seventh on a sac fly by Scott Grimes. Eric Eymann led off the inning with a triple to deep left-center, and Chris Walker scored the run, pinch-running in his return from a sprained ankle suffered last Wednesday.
The Revs maintain their three-game lead for first place in the second half, and now lead Bridgeport by three games and Southern Maryland by four games for any potential Wild Card playoff berths.
Notes: York's four-game winning streak is their biggest since starting the second half 5-0, part of a seven-game winning streak. The Revs have also won five of their last six games, seven of their last nine, and nine of their last 13. The 57-42 record is their best 99-game record in club history. It is the sixth consecutive home game that the Revs have drawn over 4,000 fans tying a club record (also August 21-31, 2008 and September 4-12, 2010). The Revs improve to 10-4 against the Bluefish for the season clinching a winning record in the season series for the fourth time in five years. York is now 5-0 at home against the Bluefish, and has won nine of the last 10 meetings overall, their best stretch ever against Bridgeport. York pitching held the opposition to two runs or fewer for the eighth time in the last 11 games (2.88 ERA on that stretch). York's Lorenzo Barcelo (1-0, 0.00) faces Bridgeport's Wardell Starling (2-0, 2.73) in the series finale on Wednesday night. It is a Wing Wednesday and Maple Donuts "Donut" Day. If Revs pitching shuts out the Bluefish and puts a "donut" on the scoreboard, all fans in attendance wins a dozen Maple Donuts. Also fans who buy a dozen Maple Donuts receive a voucher for two FREE tickets to Wednesday's game; vouchers can be exchanged in the Apple Chevrolet Ticket Office. Tickets are also available at YorkRevolution.com and (717) 801-HITS.
