Bridgewater, NJ- The Lancaster Barnstormers defeated the Somerset Patriots 3-2 in game one of a double-header on Wednesday evening. The double-header was scheduled due to Tuesday night's game being postponed because of rain.
The Barnstormers jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a sacrifice fly to right field by Travis Denker.
A two run blast by Corey Smith (6) in the bottom half of the frame gave the Patriots a 2-1 lead.
Lancaster evened the game up at two in the bottom half of the third on an RBI double by Daryle Ward.
A solo homerun by Ryan Harvey (10) in the top of the sixth broke the tie and gave Lancaster the 3-2 advantage.
Lancaster starter Brian Grening (2-2) picked up the win, allowing two runs on six hits and four strikeouts in five innings pitched. Mitch Atkins (3-2) suffered the loss for Somerset, allowing three runs on 10 hits and four strikeouts in 6.2 innings pitched. Jason Urquidez came on in relief to earn his fourth save of the season.
