Idaho Steelheads News Release
(Boise, ID) - Coming off his best month as a professional hockey player, Idaho Steelheads forward Evan Barlow has been loaned to the Abbotsford Heat of the American Hockey League.
The 24-year-old Barlow put up 21 points in just nine January games, including back-to-back five-point outings against Las Vegas on January 24 and Bakersfield on January 29. He was also named MVP of the ECHL All Star Game on January 20 after scoring two goals and adding two assists for the National Conference squad.
For the season, he leads Idaho with 48 points in 37 games. His 23 goals are 6th-best in the ECHL and he leads the league with 13 power-play goals.
"Evan deserves this, no question," Steelheads head coach Derek Laxdal said. "We're excited that he's getting the opportunity to show what he can do on the bigger stage."
The American Hockey League is the highest level of minor-league hockey in North America, one step above the ECHL.
Barlow is in his first year of professional hockey after playing four years at Cornell University in the Ivy League. The Strathmore, Alberta, native was named Cornell's MVP last season. It is his first call-up to the AHL.
Idaho returns home to host the Utah Grizzlies on Wednesday, February 10. Tickets are available at the Qwest Arena box office or by calling 208.331.TIXS. Group outings are a great way to get friends, family, co-workers, or colleagues together to enjoy a night out at great savings over walk-up ticket prices. Contact the Steelheads front office at 208.383.0080 or log on to www.idahosteelheads.com for more information.
