Wisconsin Timber Rattlers News Release
DAVENPORT, IA - The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers scored first, but the Quad Cities River Bandits scored the most on Sunday afternoon at Modern Woodmen Park. Quad Cities defeated the Rattlers 8-4 to take game three of the four-game series between the Midwest League teams.
Brice Turang started the game with a walk. The Wisconsin lead-off hitter went to second on an errant pickoff throw. Turang advanced to third on a pitch in the dirt and would score on a wild throw to third to give the Rattlers (22-26) a 1-0 lead without a hit in the first inning.
The River Bandits (31-16) came back to take their first lead of the day with three runs in the bottom of the second inning. David Hensley and Jonathan Lacroix had back-to-back doubles to start the inning and that tied the game. An error on a throw after a grounder by Michael Wielansky allowed Lacroix to score the go-ahead run. Trey Dawson sent Wielansky home with a single to left and Quad Cities was up 3-1.
Wisconsin rallied to tie the game in the top of the third. Korry Howell tripled to start the inning. Turang was next and he singled to score Howell.
The Rattlers tied the game on an RBI single by David Fry. The single by Fry moved his current hitting streak to 17 games, the longest hitting streak in the Midwest League this season.
But, Quad Cities took the lead back in the bottom of the third as they scored two runs. The first three hitters of the inning singled with Cesar Salazar's single getting the go-ahead run across the plate. Hensley added a run on a sacrifice fly.
The Rattlers helped the Bandits add to their lead in the fourth inning as two errors opened the inning to put Wielansky at second base. Quad Cities had runners at second and third with one out when Ross Adolph singled up the middle to score both runners. Later in the inning, Jeremy Pena had a sacrifice fly to drive in Adolph for an 8-3 lead.
Luis GarcÃa was the starting pitcher for the River Bandits and he left after five innings. Manny Ramirez took over in the top of the sixth inning and struck out the first two batters he faced. A walk, a single, and a walk would load the bases for Wisconsin. Then, Gabriel GarcÃa drew another walk to force in a run and end the Midwest League debut of Ramirez.
Felipe Tejada came out of the bullpen and got a strikeout to end the inning.
Three Wisconsin relievers - Tyler Gillies, Peter Strzelecki, and Chad Whitmer - would retire all twelve batters they faces, but the Rattlers wouldn't have another opportunity as good as the one in the sixth inning.
Fry added a double in the eighth inning for his Midwest League-leading 20th double of the season. He was 2-for-4 on Sunday and is 26-for-68 (382) during the streak..
The final game of the series is set for Memorial Day at Modern Woodmen Park. Aaron Ashby (3-1, 3.73) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers. Austin Hansen (4-1, 1.16) is set to start for the River Bandits. Game time is 5:15pm. The radio broadcast is on AM1280, WNAM and the TuneIn Radio app starting with the Papa John's Pizza Pregame Show at 4:55pm. MiLB.tv subscribers can watch the game over the internet.
