Balog and Walch Fuel 8-1 Evansville Win

EVANSVILLE, Ind. - The Evansville Otters (31-18) received four RBIs from first baseman Nik Balog and 7.0 scoreless innings from pitcher Trevor Walch to claim an 8-1 win over the Lake Erie Crushers (19-27) on Friday night.

The game stayed scoreless until the third when infielder Josh Allen brought home two runs with a double. Allen then moved to third on a throwing error and stole home to give Evansville the 3-0 lead.

The Otters added to the advantage with a two-run home run from Balog in the fourth and another two-run double by Balog in the fifth.

Ahead 7-0, Walch (6-3) kept Lake Erie scoreless by leaving another two men aboard in the seventh. He allowed just six hits and one walk in the game, lowering his ERA to 1.59.

Outfielder Kurt Wertz Jr. tallied the last Otters run with a seventh inning double.

Lake Erie posted a run in the eighth and another in the ninth before Evansville claimed the victory 8-2.

Balog finished the evening 3-for-4 with a home run and four runs batted in. Outfielder Chris Sweeney also tallied three runs. Allen was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBIs. Outfielder John Schultz's nine game hitting streak ended with an 0-for-3 night.

Four Otters pitched tossed the final 2.0 innings including pitcher Lance Phillips who made his professional debut and ended the contest with a doubleheader.
