Wild Things Ground Aviators, 6-3

Rockford Aviators News Release

Loves Park, ILLINOIS - The Aviators fell for the 2nd night in a row at Aviators Stadium Friday night, going down in their series opener against the Washington Wild Things 6-3. The Wild Things used a 7th inning rally to flip a 3-0 deficit into a lead the Aviators were unable to overcome.

Kyle Brueggemann was brilliant on the mound for the Aviators through 6 frames. He allowed just 4 hits over the first 6 innings, striking out 6 and getting the Wild Things to strand 3 in scoring position to keep the shutout intact.

The starter got support from his offense and from the Wild Things defense, who committed 2 errors that led to runs for the Aviators. Elijah Trail had the only RBI of the game for the home squad, singling in the 4th to pick up his 3rd run batted in over the last 2 games.

In the 7th, Brueggemann seemed poised to once again put the Washington squad away quietly. He struck out the first 2 he faced before surrendering back-to-back singles and then a 2 RBI triple to Austin Wobrock that made it a 3-2. His reliever Colby Holmes gave up a 2-run homer to Sam Mende that put Washington on top.

The Wild Things added 2 more in the ensuing 2 innings and hung on for a 3-run victory. Holmes took the loss while Jeremy Holcombe notched the save and Jonathan Kountis picked up the save.

The two squads pick up where they left off tomorrow at 7:05 pm at Aviators Stadium. For tickets, call 815-885-BALL or email tickets@rockfordaviators.com.
