(Schaumburg, IL) - The Florence Freedom (22-27), presented by Titan Mechanical Solutions, used great pitching and solid situational hitting to beat the Schaumburg Boomers (22-27) by a final score of 3-2 Friday night.

Chuck Weaver got a no-decision but he was masterful to start the game for Florence. Weaver really started cruising in the third inning as he retired 12 in a row at one point. Weaver's final line of six and a third innings, five hits, two runs, three walks and five strike outs doesn't do justice to how well he pitched.

While Weaver was dominating on the mound, Florence got to Schaumburg starter Edwin Carl in the fifth. With two outs and nobody on, Justin Harris reached on a single. Ozzy Gonzalez doubled Harris home and Steve Carrillo singled in Gonzalez to make it 2-0 in favor of Florence.

Weaver struck out the first two batters in the sixth. But Mike Schultz singled. Then Alexi Colon and Kyle Ruchim worked full counts, eventually drawing walks to load the bases. That's when TJ Bennett singled in two runs to tie the game at two.

Schaumburg threatened in the seventh but did not score. Mike Valadez reached on an infield single to start the frame and advanced to second on a throwing error by Weaver. The Boomers bunted him to third and at that point Freedom manager Dennis Pelfrey brought in "Pistol" Pete Levitt (2-2).

With the infield in, Levitt got all-star Jordan Dean to ground out to Carrillo at third. Then Craig Massey hit a ball that deflected off Levitt's glove, right to shortstop Zac Mitchell, who threw out Massey at first to get Florence out of the jam.

Florence took the lead for good in the eighth. With one out, Daniel Fraga drew a walk. He went to second on a passed ball and scored on a Mitchell RBI single.

Ethan Gibbons worked a 1-2-3 eighth inning, aided by a spectacular play in the hole by Carrillo at third to get the final out. Then Ed Kohout earned his eighth save of the year with a perfect ninth. Kohout struck out a pair of batters in the frame.

Florence looks to win their fourth straight road series as they take on the Boomers Saturday night starting at 7:00 p.m. eastern time. Ryan Davis (0-1, 4.50 ERA) takes the mound for the Freedom.
