Kane County Cougars News Release

Geneva, IL - Kane County Cougars third baseman Jeff Baisley became the fourth player in franchise history -- and first since 2003 -- to belt three home runs in one game, and 19-year-old Jared Lansford pitched seven shutout innings to lead the Cougars past the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers for an 11-3 victory Thursday night in front of 7,063 fans at Elfstrom Stadium. Lansford has pitched 21 straight scoreless innings, allowing only four hits in the process. The Cougars have now won eight consecutive games, their most as an A's affiliate, which dates back to 2003.

Baisley's first smash off Rattlers starter Harold Williams led off the second for a quick 1-0 lead. Jose Pineda drove in Steve Kleen later in the frame for a 2-0 game. Kleen doubled in a run of his own in the third, and Wisconsin botched a rundown in the fourth that allowed two runs to score to make it 5-0.

Williams left in that fourth and gave way to Ruben Flores, who allowed four runs in the sixth. Frank Martinez smacked a two-run triple, and Baisley followed with a two-run round-tripper for a 9-0 advantage.

Meanwhile Lansford put up goose eggs all night, facing the minimum three times and giving up two hits and two walks his over seven frames. He hasn't allowed a run since May 7 against Fort Wayne. John Herrera worked a scoreless eighth, and Joe Newby allowed a three-run homer in the ninth for the Rattler runs.

Baisley's final home run was a two-run blast to left in the eighth off Rollie Gibson. He now has 11 home runs on the year -- tied for most in the Midwest League -- and 34 RBIs.

Lansford (4-1) got his third straight win, and Williams (0-1) took the loss. The Cougars (28-18) and Rattlers (18-28) play again Friday night at 6:30 CDT. Vince Mazzaro (4-4, 5.62) and Jose Escalona (4-3, 2.95) will square off.
