New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
Manchester, NH - Despite back-to-back home runs in the fifth inning, the New Hampshire Fisher Cats (Blue Jays Double-A affiliate) were bested by the Hartford Yard Goats (Colorado Rockies) 5-4 on Saturday night at Delta Dental Stadium.
Trailing 1-0 entering the bottom of the fifth, the Fisher Cats rallied with singles from Christian Williams and Chad Spanberger. Riley Adams followed with a three-run homer to right, a line shot that traveled an estimated at 358 feet. The next batter was Patrick Kivlehan, who lifted a ball over the fight field wall to make it 4-1.
Thanks to two scoreless frames from Nate Pearson (2 H, 1 BB), and 4.2 impressive relief innings from Willy Ortiz (1 R, 2 H, 2 BB, 3 K), the score held until the eighth inning.
Jackson McClelland (H, 3) struck out Bret Boswell to strand two men on base in the seventh, but Hartford scored twice in the eighth on two singles, a wild pitch, and an RBI double from Colton Welker. With the score 4-3, McClelland struck out Vince Fernandez and induced a pop out of Alan Trejo to keep New Hampshire in front.
Hartford took the lead for good in the top of the ninth against closer Bryan Baker (L, 1-3). The inning began with two singles and a walk to load the bases, and Mylz Jones tied the game at 4-4 with a single to left. Manny Melendez skied a sacrifice fly to right field, and the 5-4 lead would hold up after a perfect ninth from Ben Bowden (S, 15).
Nash Knight finished 2-for-3 with a double, while Kivlehan and Adams each added singles along with their fifth-inning homers.
The Fisher Cats (22-24) will try to solve the Yard Goats (27-21) on Sunday, with first pitch scheduled for 1:35 p.m. at Delta Dental Stadium. The Fisher Cats will suit up as the Granite State Mountain Men, and Kids Run the Bases after the game, thanks to the New Hampshire State Liquor Commission, Division of Enforcement.
